Job Title: Protection Officer
Department: The Underground
Location: Asia
Description:
LiNK Protection Officers (POs) play an integral and often unseen role in the underground movement. POs are often challenged to undertake several roles concurrently. Asylum-seeking refugees depend on POs to guide and protect them as they wait in hiding in China, or await resettlement in safer countries. Government officials and their implementing partners work with our POs to ensure the well being and efficient processing of refugees. HQ also heavily depends on the field to provide accurate and timely insight to understand and better respond to the challenges and problems confronted by at-risk individuals.

  • On-call 24/7 – advocate for, assist and protect North Korean refugees (whether seeking asylum or just hiding).
  • Supervise and manage day-to-day operations of LiNK shelters, including the following: procuring food and other provisions, overseeing and handling medical needs, managing finances, and devising and implementing shelter programs.
  • Design and coordinate shelter-related programs and activities, such as the teaching of conversational English, vocational training classes and acculturation activities.
  • Represent LiNK at NGO/embassy meetings and conferences and work closely with embassies and their implementing partners to advocate for solutions to problems facing asylum-seeking North Korean refugees in the region.
  • Participate in setting the strategic vision for field operations.
  • Conduct field research and lead fact-finding missions in the region.
  • Work with LiNK HQ and affiliate, satellite offices to better address and respond to the challenges faced by all North Koreans.
  • Prepare weekly and periodic summaries, as well as field research and reports, as required by LiNK HQ and other interested bodies. Ensure that all reports are highly accurate, comprehensive and safeguard the credibility of the project.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for new projects or expand contacts or resources for existing projects.
  • Perform any other assignments as requested by HQ, including various administrative functions necessary for the efficient operation of projects.
